Mark Thompson (1959) is a distinguished British historian in his nineties closely followed the situation in the areas of the former Yugoslavia. Working for UNPROFOR he traveled all over the Balkans, and thus mastered the languages of the Yugoslav territories. He also wrote two books about the (post)Yugoslav reality: House of Paper: The End of Yugoslavia and Forging War: Media in Serbia, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina . He is also the author of the book White War: Life and Death on to the Italian front 1915–1919 , and Extract from the birth book: The story of Danilo Kiš . He lives in Oxford.
