Faruk Šehić is a writer and fisherman. Born in Bihać, SFRY. Until April 1992, he studied veterinary medicine in Zagreb, which he abandoned, returned to BiH, and became a member of the Army of the Republic of BiH (1992–1995). He was seriously wounded once. As an officer, he was awarded for his war skills. He literaryized his direct war experience in the book of short stories Under Pressure . Literary critics consider him the voice of the so-called overrun generation of writers born in the 1970s. He has won numerous awards, the most significant of which are: the Meša Selimović Award for the novel Knjiga o Una for the best book published in Serbia, Croatia, BiH and Montenegro in 2011, the EUPL 2013 (European Prize for Literature) award for the same novel, and the XXXI Premio Letterario Camaiore – Francesco Belluomini (Premio Internazionale) award for the poetry selection Ritorno alla natura . His most recent published book is the novel Cimetna pisma, dijamantna stvorenja (2024). His books have been translated into sixteen world languages ​​and published in twenty countries. He writes for the daily newspaper Oslobođenje . He lives in Sarajevo.
