Dušan Šarotar (Murska Sobota, 1968) is a Slovenian writer, poet, screenwriter and photographer. He studied sociology and philosophy at the University of Ljubljana. He was a long-time member of the editorial board of Beletrina and editor of AirBeletrina, and since 2000 he has been a freelance writer. The central themes of his latest works are the fate of the Jewish community and the Holocaust in Murska Sobota and Prekomurje. Among his most significant works are the novels Billiards in Dobray , Panorama and Star Map , for which he received the Župančič Award, the highest recognition of the city of Ljubljana. He wrote many scripts for documentaries and films, as well as film presentations of Slovenian artists. He also writes for children and puppet theaters. He is the winner of numerous awards and recognitions. His poems and prose have been included in several Slovenian and international anthologies, and have been translated into many languages.
