Thomas Obruča (St. Pölten, Lower Austria, 1969) has dedicated thirty-four years to his professional career as a civil servant in the Austrian Federal Ministry of the Interior. His curiosity, willingness to stray from the beaten track and openness to challenges enabled him to work internationally, across borders, in his early years, in addition to classic, uniformed and criminal police work. This “internationality” has accompanied him in his professional field for nineteen years. He spent eight years in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where he worked in two foreign missions of the Ministry to the UN and as a special investigator for the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. His time on the spot, his knowledge of the country and its recent history have enabled him to paint an unforgettable and realistic picture of this part of Europe. He lives with his family in Hürm (Lower Austria) and is the father of three children.
