Michael Martens (Hamburg, 1973) is German journalist and writer. From 1995 to 2000, he lived in St. Petersburg, Kiev and others cities of Eastern Europe. Since 2002, he has been the political correspondent for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung . Seven years spent in Belgrade, six in Istanbul, three in Athens. Since 2019, he lives in Vienna. His book In Search of a Hero , published in 2011, the story is about German to a soldier who became a national hero in Yugoslavia. Martens is in 2019 published an extensive biography of the Nobel laureate Ivo Andrić under the title U požaru svokda . A dream called Yugoslavia is his last book.
