Houshang Moradi Kermani is a prominent Iranian writer for children and young adults. He was born in 1944 in Sirch, a village in Kerman Province, and was educated in Kerman and Tehran. His works have been translated into English, German, French, Spanish, Dutch, Arabic, and Armenian. Thirty-three television and film adaptations of his stories have been screened at national and international festivals. Kermani is the recipient of numerous national and international awards, including the Hans Christian Andersen Honorary Diploma (1992), the University of San Francisco Book of the Year Award (2000), and a nomination for the 2018 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award. He has also won awards from the International Board on Books for Children (IBBY), the NBSP Academy (Netherlands), the German Academy for Youth, the Austrian Ministry of Culture and Arts, the Blue Cobra Award (Switzerland), the Jose Marti Award (Costa Rica), the International Library for Children and Young People (Munich, Germany), and the International Library of Sweden and UNICEF. Many stories from his life have served as inspiration for numerous works. For his long-term contribution to children's literature, in 2014 he was shortlisted for the international Hans Christian Andersen Award for the second time, which is the most prestigious award given to children's writers. The writer's most famous works are: Majid's Tales , Boots, Palm Tree , The Story of That Barrel , The Oven , The Pitcher , Mama's Guests , You Are Not a Stranger Here , Sweet Jam . In 2005, he was elected "person of all time" in the field of children's and young people's literature in Iran .
