Hosseini is a Goodwill Ambassador for UNHCR, the United Nations Refugee Agency, and the founder of the Khaled Hosseini Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people. He was born in Kabul, Afghanistan, and lives in Northern California.
