Azra Hadžić (née Selmanović) is one of the rare biologists who, after studying at the Faculty of Science and Mathematics in Sarajevo, focused her work on the application of biology as a fundamental science in agriculture, and earned her master's and doctorate degrees at the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Science, University of Sarajevo.
Such a scientific and professional path was determined by his work engagement at the Institute for Field Agriculture in Sarajevo (later UPI-Institute for Research and Development, then the Agricultural Institute, and now the Federal Institute for Agriculture).
By acquiring professional, scientific and organizational knowledge and applying them in practice, she made a significant contribution in all areas of activity: as an assistant in the Department of Plant Production; as an associate or expert advisor in the production of grain and industrial plants; as the head of individual departments within the Institute; as the director of the Institute in the war and post-war period of reconstruction and establishment of work; as a civil servant in the positions of advisor for organic production, and manager and assistant director in the Laboratory for Quality Control of Primary Agricultural Production and Food Processing Products.
Since 2009, when she was elected to the position of assistant professor, she has used her acquired knowledge in the education of students at the Faculty of Education of the University of Sarajevo, teaching the following subjects: Nutrition I and II, Food Technology I and II, Dietary nutrition, Minerals in nutrition, Vitamins in nutrition and Nutrition of school children.
In addition to 106 scientific and professional papers presented at national and international scientific and professional conferences published in relevant scientific journals, he is the author and co-author of five publications, including one university textbook. He is the author of several studies on development strategies in the fields of agriculture, rural development, ecology and conservation of natural biodiversity.
As a leader of scientific and expert teams, he has implemented a large number of domestic and international projects, of which the following are of particular importance: "Production of high-quality seeds for war-damaged areas of Bosnia and Herzegovina" in the service of a UN/FAO expert and national coordinator; "Expertise on seed quality control in Sarajevo for Bosnia and Herzegovina" in the position of UN/FAO project manager and head of the Laboratory; EBRD TAM/BAS Program "Strengthening small farms and creating sustainable systems in organic production" as a team leader.
He works in several expert groups appointed by different levels of government in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the development of laws and bylaws, as well as commissions for assessing food quality and laboratory capacity in the fields of agriculture, water management, forestry and food safety.
He also makes a significant contribution to the work of non-governmental organizations, especially through positive developments in the organic production sector as one of the founders and first president of the Association "Organic in Bosnia and Herzegovina".
He lives and works in Sarajevo.
