Kami Garcia holds a bachelor's degree from George Washington University, followed by a master's degree in education. She is a teacher and reading specialist by profession, leading reading clubs for children and teens.

Margaret Stohl holds degrees in American literature from Amherst and Yale, and an MA in English from Stanford. She studied creative writing at the University of East Anglia in Norwich. Kami and Margaret live with their families in Los Angeles, California.

Beautiful Creatures is their first novel.
