Mahmoud Dovlatabadi was born in 1940 in Iran. In his youth, he was engaged in acting. He spent two years in prison as a political prisoner. He started writing in 1960. To date, he has published many novels, plays and essays. He won the Jan Michalski Award for the novel Kolonel , which was banned in Iran and was never published in Persian. He still lives in Tehran today.
