Derviš Sušić was born on June 3, 1925 in Vlasenica. He graduated from teacher training school in Sarajevo.

He was the director of the National Library in Tuzla and a socio-political worker in Sarajevo. His most important works are: "Uhode", "Tale", "I, Danilo", "Grand Vizier", "Pobune", "Nevakat", "Hodza Strah"...

He was a full member of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Derviš Sušić is a recipient of the 27th of July Award, the ZAVNOBiH Award, and the AVNOJ Award. He died in 1990.

The library in Tuzla, where Sušić was the director since April 4, 2002, was named after him: Public Institution and National Library "Derviš Sušić".
