Promocija knjige "Odsutno tijelo moći" Senadina Musabegovića

Promotion of the book "The Absent Body of Power" by Senadin Musabegović

We are pleased to invite you to the promotion of the book "The Absent Body of Power" by Senadin Musabegović, which will be held on Thursday, April 18, starting at 7:00 PM at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo. Academician Dr. Marina Katnić Bakaršić, Prof. Dr. Kenan Šljivo, and MA Matija Bošnjak will speak about the book. The event will be moderated by Lamija Milišić.

"The book collects scholarly essays that examine a wide range of issues – from the breakup of Yugoslavia and the place of Bosnia and Herzegovina within it, through the idea of circular closure as the ideal of palanquin self-closure, to turbo-folk as a provocative place of division, and all the way to the interpretation of Krleža's relationship to stećak tombstones, as well as the development of these premises. Musabegović's texts are the result of excellent theoretical foundation and original thinking – they connect knowledge of literature and visual arts, sociology, political science, historiography, cultural studies and semiotics with a recognizable authorial voice that makes him a unique phenomenon in our country, but also beyond."

Academician Dr. Marina Katnić-Bakaršić

"Thinking about the world from the Bosnian perspective, as Musabegović precisely demonstrates, means thinking against the politics of the great powers, against ethno-nationalism, against naked capitalism. (…) In that openness to the other, unencumbered by the phantasms of the past and future that rest on the absent body of power and the glorification of the victim, the Bosnian heresy becomes a principle of hope: a critique of the existing state that resists all classification, violent schemes."

Prof. Dr. Aida A. Hozić

The third continuation of a kind of cycle about the body of Senadin Musabegović, with the concept of the absent body of power, points to the mechanisms and effects of phantom currents of power in contemporary BiH and the world.

By deconstructing various sociological phenomena - from the narrower context of medieval heritage and the anti-fascist tradition of Bosnia and Herzegovina, through the wider picture of violent reality and the crisis in the Middle East, to the analysis of nationalist and fundamentalist discourses - "The Absent Body of Power" studies the disintegration of social systems, paves the way through their ruins and confronts us with the responsibility of the human will to power.
