"The book 'Kopča' by Nirha Efendić is a documentary, autobiographical prose with elements of fiction, dealing with the disappearance of the author's father and brother in the genocide in Srebrenica. It is told in the warm and sincere voice of someone who was marked by this tragedy for life. This is one of those books that is needed by both the victims and survivors of Srebrenica and those of us who did not experience it. It possesses a much-needed insight into the suffering of the people in and around this small town in eastern Bosnia during the war years. It possesses a spontaneous gentleness and wisdom, which is emphasized by quotes from oral literature. This entire small book (because books about such a deeply personal tragedy cannot be extensive) abounds in tameness and healing, like nature in May."
